It is our great pleasure to share some simple “hot tips” for a perfectly polished nail. While everyone may have a way that works best for them, the following has proven to be consistent with excellent results.

Remember, it’s only paint….have fun!

Polishing 101

The most important step in the polishing process is to wipe the nail plate clean before painting.
After filing and moisturizing, any residue left on the nail will prevent the polish from adhering properly, so it’s important to swipe the nail clean with polish remover (we prefer acetone FREE) just before painting. Now, are you ready for this?...skip the base coat. That’s right, just forget it.  Of course, if it means that much to you then go right ahead and use it, but we trust that less is more. The color applied directly to a clean nail will last just as long.

Two coats of sheswai lacquer and a top coat of your choice will leave you with lovely lacquered fingertips!

5 things NOT to do within 30 minutes of a manicure

  1. Dig in your purse for keys
  2. Play in the sand
  3. Wash your hair…or anyone elses.
  4. Knead the dough for fresh baked bread
  5. Take off your skinny jeans (unless someone else does it for you!)

In addition to the polished perfection of your hands & feet, we here at sheswai care about the rest of you too! That’s why we’d like to share some of the natural ways you can care for your body, mind, & soul. Here you’ll find some tried & true recipes for lookin’ good and feelin’ fine.

*It is always our preference to use organic ingredients whenever possible.

Dry skin happens to everybody, and to help remedy this you only have to go as far as your kitchen. Olive oil is a wonderful moisturizer, and a little goes a long way.
Rub a bit into your cuticles while cooking, apply to damp skin with a dollop of your favorite lotion just after a bath or shower, or comb through hair before bed for ultra conditioning, (be sure to sleep with a towel on your pillow.)
Remember, if it was good enough for Cleopatra, it’s good enough for us!

Essential Oils & Aromatherapy
Essential oils are concentrated plant essences. There are two basic ways that essential oils effect the body: through the nose, and through the skin. One of our favorites is the luscious lavender oil. With an aroma that’s fresh, floral, and earthy, this magical plant has many wonders. Apply a drop or two directly onto tender cuticles, scrapes, burns, insect bites….a few drops in the palms and rubbed into to the abdomen makes a sweet relief for menstrual cramps.
The aromatherapy benefits include relief of tension headaches, insomnia, anxiety, and fatigue. Apply a few drops to a clean soft cloth, sit back, close your eyes, and breathe deep & steady. Nice.

Another favorite is the almighty eucalyptus tree. The potent oils extracted from the leaves and twigs are proven to be helpful for muscle aches, colds, flu, and sluggishness…add a few drops to a bowl of hot hot water, tent a towel over your head and inhale deeply, yet cautiously, to relieve chest congestion and a stuffy nose. Good stuff, fersure.

Body scrubs
Organic sugar
Olive oil, Sesame oil, almond oil, or jojoba oil…any combination of these will do
Essential oils of your choice

For 1 body application use about 1 cup of sugar, add about 3 tablespoons of olive oil and blend…
Depending on your desired consistency add a bit more oil or sugar.
Step into the shower/tub, without water, and beginning with the feet start scrubbin. Rub-a-dub up the legs, on your bum, to the belly & hips, easy on the chest, to finish with the arms and shoulders. Don’t forget your hands, minding to gently massage into cuticles.

Now get that water temperature to your liking and rinse. Bathe as you do, and pat dry. Moisturize with your favorite lotion…admiring the slick, sweet glow of your skin. Perfecto!
